Principal Sessions Judge Jammu RS Jain today awarded life imprisonment to Ram Preet Paswan, who had killed his own daughter.
According to the police case that one Head Constable-Kewal Krishan GRP on patrol duty on 2/3 platform Railway Station Jammu informed Chowki Police post, East GRP, Railway, Jammu that in compartment for Handicap persons of Amritsar-Bathinda Express train, there was tied gunny bag.
After opening the gunny bag, the GRP found unidentified body of woman aged about 20/21 years.
On receipt of this docket, FIR No.12/2013 was registered in police station GRP Jammu for offence under section 302/201 RPC. During the investigation on 23.6.2013, the body was identified by Satinder Paswan in presence of Joginder Paswan, Lakhanpal to be Rintu Kumari daughter of accused Ram Preet Paswan who was living in Channi Rama for the last about 10 years in the house of Joginder Kumar along with his wife and daughter.
The aforementioned persons had found the deceased and her parents on 20.6.2013 at 10/11 PM to be present in their rented room at Channi Rama, Jammu.
Principal Sessions Judge Jammu RS Jain after hearing Adv RK Kotwal for the accused person observed that it was a settled proposition that in awarding sentence in civilized society, a reasonable proportion has to be maintained by the Court between the heinousness of the crime and the punishment.
The sentences are imposed to reflect the seriousness of the crime, to promote respect for the law, to provide just punishment for the offence, to afford adequate deterrent to criminal conduct and to protect the community from further similar conduct.
In awarding sentence the court must look into the crime, the victim besides the circumstances of the criminal and the impact of the crime on community. With these observations, Court awarded imprisonment for life and a fine of Rs.20000 for offence u/s 302 RPC in causing the murder of Rintu Kumari. JNF
