I came to know people have to watch Bollywood movies through pirated DVDs. It unfortunate that the people here are not enjoying cinema on 70mm screens. Bollywood superstar Salman Khan today advocated for opening of cinemas in Kashmir and expressed gratitude to people who supported him in wake of his recent conviction by court.
While addressing media here, Khan said it was surprising that theaters are not operational in Kashmir. “I came to know people have to watch Bollywood movies through pirated DVDs. It unfortunate that the people here are not enjoying cinema on 70mm screens. They should get an opportunity to watch movies in theaters”, he said.
Praising Kashmiris’ for their honesty, hospitality and simplicity, he thanked his fans and supporters in Kashmir for praying for him in testing times. With reference to a local family that he adopted recently, Khan said: “They have prayed for and I am praying for them. I thank the people of Kashmir for supporting me in testing times”
He said Kashmir is much more beautiful than Switzerland and people who have not visited Kashmir have seen nothing. “I would appeal the people outside the state to visit the beautiful landscapes of the Valley and explore it as an all weather tourist destination”.
Terming last year’s floods in Kashmir as unfortunate Salman mentioned that his Being Human organization has supported and will continue to support people to bring the life back on rails.
The Bollywood superstar revealed that his roots lie in the state as his maternal grandfather hailed from Jammu.
Khan evaded a direct reply to a question about his views on the Kashmir issue, saying the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister were the best persons to comment on it.
When asked whether his movie would depict violence as attributed to Kashmir in films made earlier, Khan said Bajrangi Bhaijaan is a comedy revolving round a love story. He said he would love to shoot in Kashmir in the future as well.
