Srinagar, Mar 29: District administration has sounded a flood alert in the Srinagar city after Jhelum crossed 16 feet mark at Rammunhshi Bagh.

“Flood alert has been declared. People living on the banks of water bodies have been asked to evacuate,” an official spokesman of district administration said.

Official said all employees associated with flood duty have been directed to report to their offices forthwith.

: The Government Sunday issued an avalanche warning for seven Kashmir districts. 

According to a communication from Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, an avalanche warning exists for next 24 hours from March 29 to March 30, 2015 in the avalanche prone areas of Kulgam, Pulwama, Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora, Ganderbal and Kargil districts. 

In view of the above, Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Pulwama, Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora, Ganderbal and Kargil districts have advised people not to venture in avalanche prone areas during above mentioned period. 

“During heavy snowfall, people are advised not to occupy and temporarily evacuate those locations which are under fall line of avalanches. The concerned Deputy Commissioners are asked to take all precautionary measures so as to avert any untoward incident,” an official spokesman said.
