Pulwama, Jan 22: A lady Wednesday gave birth to a child on
road in Tral area here due to accumulated snow on the streets and
non-availability of transport while many patients in Pulwama were taken to
hospitals on tractors and shoulders.
The electricity was completely off while snow was lifted only from few roads in
Pulwama and Shopian districts. Reports said Shameema wife of Rafeeq Ahmad of
Karmulla Tral gave birth to a child on road as she could not be taken to
hospital in time due to snow-covered roads. The district administration however
sent a team of doctors, along with medicine, on a dozer to the village.
“Shameema complained of severe pain. We tried to take her to a hospital but
could not because there was almost 4 ft snow on road. The residents of the
village took her on a charpoy. After walking half a kilometer, she gave birth
to a child on road itself,” residents of Karmulla told Greater Kashmir.
The doctors after examining the lady and child declared that
their condition was stable.
“We contacted the Naib tehsildar and after some time a team
of doctors reached our village on dozer, taking people by surprise,” they said.
Meanwhile at least six patients of Shahoora in Khrew were
taken to different hospitals on tractors.
