Pulwama, May 4: The death of a student after he inadvertently consumed acid by alleged negligence of a teacher Wednesday triggered massive demonstrations here in south Kashmir on Wednesday with the protesters demanding probe into the incident and action against the accused.
The students of all the private schools here boycotted their classes and took to streets against the death of 13-year old Asif Nabi Dar son of Ghulam Nabi Dar of Dangarpora Pulwama due to alleged negligence of his teachers.
Witness said Asif who studies in 8th standard in a private school here was taking practical classes in the laboratory on Tuesday afternoon.
“Asif informed his computer teacher Ajaz Ahmad that he was feeling thirsty. He pointed towards a bottle in the laboratory and asked Asif to drink the water in it. But Asif abruptly shivered due to bitter taste of the water.
When the teacher tasted few drops from the bottle, he developed blisters on his tongue. The teacher advised Asif to wash his mouth and go home,” said Asif’s classmate Sameer Ahmad Rather.
Back home, Asif informed his father Ghulam Nabi that he was feeling unwell and informed him about the school incident. “I went to the school alongwith Asif to ascertain what substance he had consumed. I was shocked when the school management informed me that he had mistakenly consumed acid,” said Asif’s father Ghulam Nabi Dar
He rushed Asif to the district hospital where the doctors washed his stomach. “However when his condition deteriorated, he was referred to SMHS hospital in Srinagar. “Asif vomited blood from his mouth and the doctors were surprised at the treatment given to him at the Pulwama hospital terming it as negligence,” Dar said.
When contacted the hospital officials said the boy was admitted late. “We gave him the best treatment but his condition deteriorated,” they said.
Asif’s body was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard in Pulwama.
Meanwhile, an FIR No 115 u/s 374 A has been registered in Police Station Pulwama. Despite repeated attempts management of the school could not be contacted.
