Srinagar, Feb 5: The weatherman has predicted moderate to heavy snowfall across Valley from February 6 to 8.
Disaster Management Kashmir said fresh Western Disturbance is approaching the State. “In view of WD, the fairly widespread snowfall may occur at many places from February 6 to 8 with possibility of moderate to heavy snowfall at many places,” he said.
He said Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Asgar Hassan Samoon has directed all Deputy Commissioners of Valley, Commissioner SMC, Chief Engineers of Beacon, PHE, Electric and Mechanical Engineering to ensure that necessary measures are taken to ensure minimum disruption of services.
“Divisional Commissioner has also asked traffic department to announce one-way traffic on Srinagar-Jammu highway from February 6 to 8 in view of snow forecast to ensure that passengers are not put to inconvenience, due to snowfall,” Aamir said.
He said Div Com has also directed Chief Engineer PHE Kashmir to ensure uninterrupted water supply at tourist resort Gulmarg, where tourists and school children have gone for skiing courses. “Instructions were also given that no vehicle will be allowed beyond Tangmarg to Gulmarg unless it has 4x4 facility or the tyres are fitted with chains. This measure has been taken to avoid any mishap due to slipping of vehicles which can cause accidents,” he said.
Meanwhile, a medium danger avalanche alert has been sounded by SASE for Gurez, Gugladara, Keran, Machil, Chowkibal and Tangdar valid upto 5 pm of 6th Feb. People living in the higher reaches of these areas have been advised to curtail their movement during snowfall and not to venture into avalanche prone areas.
